Reflections on whether the 2007 Detroit Pistons should be dismantled

by TheFan

The Detroit Pistons should not be dismantled because of the fact that they played extremely hard this year for the head coach. The Head Coach just wasn't hard enough on his players, he had the player's coach approach, and His defensive schemes where at the High school level. During the regular season you can get away with those types of schemes because of the time it takes to prepare for the amount of games being played. Flip ran a more guard dominated offense where in many cases the centers, forwards, and swing man didn't see that much of the ball. Flip also was a terrible person at making subs to tired players, he would go small at time where he need an impact. He would allow defensive scheme contradict the way the defense played. You can' break up a team where the players are playing extra hard for you and your lack of coaching on he defensive side is putting them at risks. The NBA is not a place where you run half court zones or foul line zones to slow down a team that practice to shoot in the gym your playing on a daily basis. If you dismantle a team like Detroit I will take you four year to get back to the spot where they were. You have a better shot at keeping the team together while getting younger at the same time. The Pistons lack of having a coach that new how to play defense was the main reason why they lost. They should have had a coach that would have went to Flip and said Look this half court set is not working lets and more pressure, or contest every shot. Then Flip was throwing everything at the team's best player, which only makes they players guarding, tired on both side. If a team is zoning and trapping that means they will have to use a lot of subs, and Flip burnt his players out with the traps. So breaking up a team that had two bad defeats in the players because of lack of defense is not the best idea to do. If you look at the season and how the team was playing that team would have won if Mike Brown were the Head Coach. This comes to tell you that no matter how smart you are on the Offensive side of the ball a good defensive team will always beat a great offensive minded coach.
