I must say that I could agree with most when they say that it is the same information with just a different spin on it when it comes to the latest self-help book. Actually I do think that just like everything in our lives we are overloaded with information. We should do this, that and the other to be "enlightened" or to be completely healthy...or on and on....ignorance is bliss right? Not really.
Life is a choice so when a book finds me I read it. That is really not that hard, if a book comes "to" you then you are meant to read it. Whether it falls off a shelf at the library, or a friend is reading it and tells you that it is so worth your time. The information we need gets to us, we just need to realize that. Reading books that are meant to help you improve your life can be very enriching for your soul. However, just reading and saying "oh gee, that happened to me too!", or " oh my that makes sense, hmmm" maybe it would be best to just practice little lessons in the book. The things that ring true to your soul is all you need to pay attention too! Incorporate, the small changes first. If you forget a step, so what? Is the Author going to ground you for it? No, but you will shoulder your own guilt as to why you can't do or be just like the other 1.4 million people that read the book and fixed their lives? Duh! The other 1.4 million people couldn't do it either. That is because we are all meant to do things in our own way, learn our own lessons and grow at our own time. I personally think that the world would not be a great place to be if we all were the same. How boring!
Self-help books serve the purpose of getting the information out to people, it is up to the people how much they want to absorb. I know that there is wisdom in the ideas and concepts of the books. If you find something that works don't you want to share it with others? I think that MONEY takes all the fun out of giving advice, if a person was having coffee with you and told you 3 things that would change your life, you would listen, think about it and make a decision about acting on it. Now, if that same person was just a stranger, an author wanting to give you their book who told you it would change everything for only $9.95...it seems to me the importance of the information is lost. Now, you want a guarantee that you will have a fixed life , everything will be perfect and there is nothing more you should have to do. When it doesn't work, you throw it out...along with all your aspirations and inspirations! As they say "life is a lesson, best learned backwards!"
