The after fifty years are the best time to realize your dreams. How many of us have prayed for freedom from work in order to fulfill a life long Dream. How many of us thought, that if it weren't for a steady pay check to satisfy family obligations, we would have tried, or preferred to run our own business. I am here to tell you it is not too late. With years of all kinds of work experience and life experiences in your repertoire, you are ideally placed to make your dream come true.
Start by visiting your local business support center or small business center for information on license fees, building codes, insurance and funding to name a few.
Get help from your local library or business center on preparing a business plan. There are courses also available for continuing education students in starting and running a small business. Do register.
What is your passion. Don't attempt to open a dog grooming service if you don't like dogs. This is the time to live your dream and do what you love.
Plan carefully. Ensure that you count the costs of starting a business. Talk to your bank, there are loans available for small business endeavors, it may not be a lot but it is a start.
Start small. You do not want to take excessive risks and gamble with your retirement. While you can't escape the elements of risk when starting a new business, you still need to be prudent with your decision making.
Starting a business is ideal for baby boomers. You already have the strength and courage garnered from your time served on the protest line. You can dare to succeed.
