Utter tosh. The Premier League has some of the best footballers in the world entertaining millions of fans in stadia and on TV across the world every week. A fraction of that total watch Football League games. The reason? Quality. The skill levels, speed of movement, football intelligence and atmosphere in the top tier are much better than anything in the lower leagues.
A good Football League side is far inferior to an average Premier League outfit. The number of mistakes in the Premier League are quite low. Players have to be right on top of their game to break down well-drilled opposition defenses or to stop outstanding strikers. Not so in the Football League.
And don't argue that we get Football League clubs knocking Premier clubs out of the FA Cup. Yes, sometimes. There are flukes in the game. And notice when the big boys enter the FA Cup - in January. when the pitches are at their worst because of the weather and games can sometimes become a lottery. But all things being equally, 99 times out of 100, class will tell and the big boys will win.
Don't get me wrong, we need the Football League and followers of teams in that tier are to be admired for their dedication. Going even further down to the grass rots, without local football, we would have no league pyramid and no Premier football, which is the best in the world.
