Short stories: Police

"a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs". He was scratching his arms, shifting back and forth on his feet, and pacing. He attempted to calm the gentleman by changing the subject to the college his father and the gentleman had attended, but the gentleman seemed to get even more nervous and agitated. It was then that he called in the K-9 team. Bill didn't particularly care for K-9, but on this occasion felt it would be good.

There were numerous occasions when he felt that he could do a better job of sniffing out dope than any dog could. He had earned the reputation as the departments drug dog. He'd be chided by his fellow officers because of his intense, hard-nosed, never say die approach to finding illegal drugs in a vehicle.

Bill advised the gentleman that the gentleman's vehicle was being detained and would not be moved until a K-9 team arrived due to suspected drug activity. This last tidbit of information incensed the gentleman and made him all the more nervous. He recognized these actions as not only nervousness; it was also a sign of fight or flight syndrome. Fight or flight syndrome is a mental state in which the person experiencing it realizes that his options are limited and will either fight or run from a fight (flight). Noting this, Bill called for backup. He had been in numerous fights in the past and knew that the odds would be in his favor at 2 to 1.

Shortly after backup arrived he advised the Sarge of all that he observed. The Sarge considered all of the information and directed Bill to call for a K-9. Knowing the Sarge's appetite for finding drugs and experience in the matter, the adrenaline began pumping faster and harder through Bill's veins.

They both turned to the driver and again requested consent to search the vehicle. The driver, for reasons unknown, blurted out "If I give you all the marijuana I've got can I go?!" It seemed the gentleman thought that by stating that he would relent, write him a ticket, and he'd be off on his merry way. He was wrong. Upon hearing this, Bill asked how much marijuana he had and where it was located. The gentleman responded that he had less than an ounce of marijuana in the armrest of the vehicle.

Suddenly, the man made a break for it, running towards his car. He was quickly subdued by both Bill and the Sarge and then put into handcuffs and placed in the rear seat of Bill's patrol car.

Bill and the Sarge then began a search of the vehicle. Immediately, he spotted the marijuana, in a small Ziploc
