Terrorism: The London Bomb Attack

The London Bomb Attack
I've kept an online diary since May 2002. Most of the entres in it are about day to day happenings, nothing out of the ordinary. The entry I wrote on 07/07/05 was about something "out of the ordinary". That was the first day extremists who believed in a 'Holy War' created terror through bombs in London.

Thurs 07/07/05-Hearing About London

When the first two terrorist bombs exploded in London before 9am on Thursday 7th July, I was still sleeping peacefully in my bedroom at my home in Kent, England. When I went downstairs to get something for Breakfast, unusually, there was not a radio on. Occupied with the details of a car repair he had to do, my Dad had left all of the three radios we have downstairs in our house switched off. He was reading his car manual in silence. I got my usual cereal, biscuits and fruit juice from the Kitchen and headed back upstairs. Before I knew about what had happened in London that morning, my main concerns were the 2lbs in weight that I'd apparently gained overnight and the fact that my stomach felt uncomfortably bloated and was aching.

It was when I had connected to the internet on Thursday morning that I first realised something bad had happened in London. The 'Wanadoo' homepage loaded and their headline about several bomb explosions in London caught my eye. Seeing the headline shocked me but at that point I didn't analyse the enormity of the events. I clicked on Wanadoo's headline link but it seemed to be taking a long time to load and I felt impatient. Reflecting now, perhaps the news link was loading slowly because so many people were frantically searching for the latest news about London. At that time on Thursday 7th July 05, I just thought to myself that I must "watch the news later" and continued with my regular online activities such as checking my email. I was also trying to sort out a Paypal' payment and confirm some delivery details for a book I had to post off and I was finding that frustrating for a while.

Later on in the morning, my Dad called up the stairs "Have you seen the news?". I hadn't "seen" the news but I knew immediately what he was going to comment on. "No, I haven't seen the news but I've seen the headlines online" was my reply to my Dad's question. My Dad apparently had heard the news and he mentioned facts from the reports. As my Dad stated what he had heard on the news, my main thoughts were that those responsible for the bombings were "evil *", a sentiment I repeated
