funded by OUR taxes far out-weighs those who can and do pay. I say that if they are willing to pay for their rights, why don't they go back or stay in their own country.

Then, there's the misguided notion of entitlement. We are constantly bombarded with the audacity of these illegal immigrants demanding their rights as citizens of the United States. Surely they jest. How can they be serious; and, how can our own government representatives allow these insane claims to stand? They have no such rights and privileges provided by our Constitution, Bill of Rights, nor any Amendments of which I am aware. Yes, I am aware that any written word can be twisted to mean whatever is expedient for argument's sake; I know most anything can be interpreted to mean whatever one feels is in his best interest. However, I say our governing, founding documents that keep us a free nation are clear, expressive and their meaning/intent unmistakable.

Just this morning (6/8/07), since it appears the bill for amnesty for illegal immigrants will fail in the Senate, Christopher "Chris" Cuomo 'interviewed' Representative Tom Tancredo, R-Colo on Good Morning America. Mr. Cuomo was nearly belligerent, and definitely unprofessional (not neutral, as professional journalists are reputedly supposed to be). It was apparent to me, if not all, that Mr. Cuomo holds an allegiance with illegal immigrants. I had not considered his genetic origins (or, rather what his ancestry was) before, however following today's telecast I'd say he's of Mexican descent, possibly with relatives who are, at the very least, 'undocumented'. It has been my experience that my students who fall within this designation are pro-amnesty, while those whose parents possess full, legal citizenship either are against it or don't care one way or the other.

This is important in considering the true reason for the illegal immigration/amnesty bill and the manner in which we, Americans, tend to allow those of Latin origin (most particularly) to be rude and impolite toward us all. If even those who are obviously educated and holding high-ranking positions of employment are in agreement with breaking the laws of America, how can they be expected to uphold and abide by our laws? If they can see nothing wrong with this group of immigrants openly professing that the only deciding factors in their wanting to live in the United States are the freedoms and gainful employment our country provides them, how can we believe they honesty WANT to be an American-in heart and spirit, as well as the financial means and comforts American citizens are promised? It is ironic that Mr. Cuomo's actions will unlikely be overlooked. I cannot believe it would not have caused him at least a reprimand, at most the reputation of being a radical, as being unprofessional-as CNN anchor Lou Dobbs has been dubbed by some of his fellow professional journalists on competing stations.

Furthermore, if these illegal or undocumented immigrants want their rights and their just due privileges as citizens of a nation, let them return to their own countries and demand those rights and privileges of which they are rightfully deserving. This only applies to those here in our country without benefit of legal documentation and citizenship. Whereas I truly do sympathize with their plights, I honestly believe as I have attested, here. Their children might actually be citizens who do belong here. And, yes there are a significant number of members of their families who have lawfully complied with the immigration laws, becoming legal citizens. To these I say, you are welcome. You are our brothers and sisters. You are truly citizens of the United States of America. This is your home.
