Can Hillary Clinton be an effective president?

It is a commonly held feeling from my discussions that America is not ready for a woman president. Whether it is because women are considered moody, or because they are considered less confident, or able, than men, it would be difficult for any woman to get the male vote, which is still the largest gender segment of the electorate, by far. When you make that woman Hillary Clinton, it becomes that much more difficult just to win the presidency.

Grant her the scenario, however, that she could possibly win. Then, imagine how she would be taken by the world. Most of the rogue nations that didn't take her husband seriously will consider her even less. The world would be a very gloomy place. Among the world issues that would arise if Hillary won the presidency would be a resumption of China as our most favored trading partner, in spite of their continued human rights violations.

Muslim nations, where the leadership doesn't even believe that women should be seen in public, would develop even more distrust and disdain for the United States if we had a woman at the helm.

North Korea would undoubtedly resume their nuclear programs in earnest, right along with Iran's emboldened nuclear program.

The Palestinians would be reinvigorated in their attacks on Israel, and Israel would face severe cutbacks in their support from the United States.

Domestically, taxes would likely go up, causing our wobbly, but growing, economy to falter, and possible go into recession.

Her domestic programs in education and health care would add to our already over-sized government, and would further degrade our government efficiency. There is a reason that Canadians come to the United States for operations like Cat scans-they can have the operation in an outpatient visit that takes a few hours, as opposed to waiting 10-12 weeks for their government insured visit in Canada.

Further, if the federal government is deadlocked on most issues with President Bush in the White House, imagine how much more so it would be if Hillary were in the White House.

For all these reasons, I have to come to the conclusion that Hillary cannot be an effective president.
