2007 NFL draft predictions

The first division I want to deal with is the AFC East. This division consists of the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and New York Jets. This is an in-between division because it has a powerhouse like New England, a cellar-dweller in Buffalo, and Miami and the Jets at best are wildcard contenders.

The Patriots are the most solid team in the NFL, and they made themselves better with the offseason acquistions of Adalius Thomas, Wes Welker, Kyle Brady, and Randy Moss. That's just their offseason acquistions. They already have Tom Brady, Rodney Harrison, Laurence Maroney, Asante Samuel, and Teddy Bruschi. They are my pick to win Super Bowl XLII in Tempe in 2008. I am also going to make my boldest prediction since I correctly predicted that the Patriots would beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 in the Super Bowl before the season began. It is my belief that the 2007 Patriots have the best chance ever to become only the second NFL team to finish a season undefeated.

The Dolphins are a tough team to predict. The Dolphins can be a perennial playoff contender if and only if one of two things happen: 1) Duante Culpepper is healthy and dominates like he should or 2) the Dolphins trade for Trent Green. I know Trent is an old guy but he still has the juice to carry a talented team like the Dolphins to the playoffs if Culpepper falters. Unfortunately I think the Dolphins will be either a disappointment or (at best) an average team. If this team plays it best football it has the potential to win 9 to 12 games this year.

The Jets are building something special in the Meadowlands. Head Coach Eric Mangini transformed the Jets into playoff contenders in one season. Unfortunately I think they will fall off the horse a little bit and miss the playoffs. Some might point out the fact that he is a Bill Belichick disciple and that fact alone ensures continued success in the mold of the Patriots' success. But I must point out Romeo Crennel of the Cleveland Browns was a Belichick pupil but has not panned out in Cleveland the way we all thought he would. At best the Jets can win 9 to 10 games.

What can you say about the Buffalo Bills. It was around this time last year that I said that their hiring of Dick Jauron as their head coach was a huge mistake and that the franchise would go steadily downward and that they should have hired either Ron Rivera, Scott Linehan or Mike Tomlin as their head coach. But the Bills' front office did not listen to me and it appears that
