A story, most RPGs are stories where you have one main character who has to go on a quest of some sort and he has other friends/characters join him or her. Usually only four people are in a party at one time. They are turn based games and do not involve running and jumping in fighting, usually you push a button for attack, defend, magic, or special, and you watch the funn but that is it. There are usually quests and sidequests to be done, weapon upgrades, items searches and money gathering. Experience points gained in battles up levels and hit points along with other stats such as strength, luck, speed, etc.
Then there are RPG's that are on internet chat boards, these usually dont last for more than a day. It is basically a group of people taking turns writing a story. Kind of like a writing circle wher someone writes a paragraph and then it is passed to another who writes another paragraph. Personally I don't think I would have enough patience for this type of RPG, because if I start a story I would want to finish it.
Enjoy your RPGs. ^^
