Boutonniere ideas for the groom

A boutonniere at a wedding is like a child, it should be seen but not heard. In other words, the boutonniere is meaningful as an accent but it shouldn't actually call attention to itself. With the boutonniere, simple is better. Roses make lovely boutonnieres, but flowers with spread petals, like roses and others, do not hold up well and are pretty much trashed after a few sincere hugs. A flower with tight petals, like the carnation or mum, has better lasting power and the diversity of colors make them a good choice.

The groom needs to make a careful count of how many boutonnieres are required. I have been to more than one wedding where the boutonnieres were in short supply. The groom as well as all of the groomsmen will wear one. Both fathers should get one. Do you have a little male ring bearer? Don't forget him. Boutonnieres aren't that expensive. It won't hurt to have a couple of extras.

It's okay for the groom to have a fancier boutonniere than the others but not absolutely necessary. He will stand out in many other ways and doesn't need his boutonniere to set him apart. Keep it simple. It is a meaningful part of the wedding garb but it is still just an accent, not a big fashion statement.
