The importance of Francisco Cordero as the closing pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers

With Derrick Turnbow struggling a little bit, the emergence of Francisco Cordero for the Milwaukee Brewers has been one of the biggest reasons for the Brewers rise to the top of the National League Central. He gives them a stopper at the end of the bullpen, which is something that you have to have if you want to be a contender for the World Series, which the Milwaukee Brewers are at this point of the season.

As of this writing, Cordero is leading the National League in saves with 21, but more importantly he has been absolutely dominant in doing it. His ERA is below 1 (with only 1 ER in over 23 IP), he has struck out 33 batters in 23 innings (compared to 8 BB), and amazingly he has allowed only 6 hits on the year, meaning opponents are batting .081 against him.

Now, nobody can keep up these superhero numbers, but it's easy to see that Cordero has been the best reliever in the MLB so far this season. To say that he has been absolutely filthy is an understatement... he really has been superhuman so far. This has been huge for the Brewers, as they know that they are in good shape if they can get it into the late innings with a lead, which has not always been the case for them in past years.

So Cordero has been one of the team's MVPs thus far and one of the biggest reasons for their fast start this season. If he can keep it up, he remains a very important part of the Brewers and one of the biggest reasons they are the favorite right now in the NL Central.
