"But Mommy, I don't want to go!" Cherry cried out, her angelic face looked so pale and defeated, laying on the hospital gurney as the tears streamed down her little cheeks.
"Don't worry sweetheart, you know, my whole prayer group is here with me today and we are putting it all in the Lord's hands that everything will be ok." Felicia, her mother said while looking tired and much older then her 30 years.
"I love you baby" Felicia squeezes her daughters hand, then lightly kisses her cheek, while clenching tightly in the other hand her old worn King James Bible. A Bible that had been handed down through the generations. Felicia had told several nurses that this Bible was special because her own mother had given her this Bible when she turned 12 years old and she wanted Cherry to have it when she turned 12 years old too.
Felicia watched as the nurse pushed her only child down the hall, to get another X-Ray. Cherry's Doctor told her that he was almost positive the cancer had spread because of all of the weight loss and pain her daughter was having. Cherry had all but quit eating over a week ago because of the nauseous episodes she's been having.
"It is ok sweetie!" the brown headed nurse said trying to console Cherry
Not feeling so professional, the nurse could hardly hold back the tears . "You really are going to be ok in just a little bit, I honestly give you my word that this isn't going to hurt" Looking deep into Cherry's frightened eyes, she slides her into the MRI.
"Brenda why are you crying?" her friend, Lisa, the x-ray technician asked.
"I feel so sorry for this little girl, it doesn't look like she is going to make it and I believe she is giving up!" Brenda dabs at her red eyes with a tissue.
"You have got to get tough Brenda! Life and death is a part of being well "human"!
Remember, that is what we all learned taking medical classes. Besides, you know that Dr. Morris, Cherry's doctor already told you there really wasn't much hope now for Cherry, all we can do is make her more comfortable. Maybe, he will let her go on home soon, since it is pretty much ...over" Lisa starts typing, not looking at Brenda's shocked expression
Lisa reminded Brenda of a robot. No real hope for anyone. "Just make her comfortable " Afterwards, it will be like she just went to sleep..she will be out of pain then!..this was her was of making everything more "Human" I suppose.
She remembered, when Lisa was just a little kid in school, she told her there was nothing else but "life" then "death".
