Three Kid's Crafts to Do With Broken Crayons
Some of the most omnipresent things scattered about a child's room are broken crayons. What starts out as a bright box of sharpened coloring tools quickly degrades into bits and pieces of lumpy wax. Most people simply throw broken crayons into the garbage. To stop this waste, however, you might like to try one of the three things to do with broken crayons listed below.
One: Waxed Paper Stained Glass Windows
With some broken crayon bits and waxed paper, you and your children can craft beautiful stained glass windows. To begin, the broken crayons should be broken down or shaved further into very small pieces. You do not want anything too bumpy for this craft.
After the crayons are broken down, decide what type of picture you wish to make. Draw the outlines lightly on one piece of waxed paper. Then, fill in each space in the picture with your chosen color of broken crayon pieces. It is important to fill the space with just enough crayon pieces without overfilling.
Then, carefully layer another piece of waxed paper on top. For this craft, the waxed sides of the paper should face each other. Cover the entire waxed paper piece with a large sheet of construction or other heavy paper. Then, with your iron on a low setting, quickly iron over the whole thing. The broken crayon pieces will melt quickly and run together in between the wax paper pieces.
Two: Mega Multi-Color Crayons Blocks
The next broken crayon kid's craft idea is making giant rainbow crayon blocks. For this craft, you need a double boiler, a muffin pan, and paper muffin papers.
First, line the muffin pan with the paper muffin papers. Next, crumble the broken crayons in many different colors into the muffin tins. The final step is to melt a quantity of the broken crayons in the double boiler. When they are in a liquid consistency, pour the wax carefully into the muffin tins, covering up the broken crayon bits.
When they are cooled completely, pull them out of the muffin tin and peel the paper off. You will have chunky rainbow crayon blocks.
Three: Wax Painting on Paper
The final kid's craft idea for broken crayons is wax painting. This project requires a double boiler, metal spoons, thick paper, and adult supervision. The broken crayon pieces should be melted in the double boiler. Then, with the metal spoons, children can scoop up the soft wax and dribble it over the paper in patterns and pictures. The three dimensional art will be a great hit.
Broken crayons can be an excellent craft medium to work with. By utilizing the three ideas outlined in this article, you will be able to introduce a whole new range of possibilities to your child. Broken crayons need no longer be wasted, but instead transformed to a new life of unlimited fun.
