Ever clean your kitchen and think "I just cleaned what still smells?" You follow your nose and it leads right to the garbage disposal!
Before you try anything else turn the cold water on and dump a tray ice cubes down the disposal and then turn it on.
What happens is the disposal is a nice damp dark area that allows bacteria to grow. If there are any bits of food or grease down there the growth is even more rapid and stinky.
By dropping ice cubes down and grinding them up your chilling the grease making it hard and the ice then scrapes the grease and food off and down the drain.
If there is still a smell after the tray of ice cubes is ground up then try three whole lemons. The acid in the lemons will kill any bacteria in between the blades and the rubber cuff at the top. follow with another tray of ice cubes because yu don't want bacteria growing on the bits of leftover fruit!
If you dump a tray of ice cubes down once a week you should never have a problem with a stinky disposal again!
