Game reviews: Trivial Pursuit

Most of us have a head full of pointless, random facts, that we love to throw out there and show off with. Well there is no better place to show off your trivia knowledge then with a game of Trivial Pursuit.

Trivial Pursuit has been around for so long now, that it is likely that at least one of the many revised versions has made a home for itself in your cupboard. Most families have some form of Trivial Pursuit, usually well worn after much playing.

Trivial Pursuit consists of 6 different topic areas, of which questions are asked from a pile of 300 question cards. While moving around the board and landing on specific squares, the goal is to answer one question from each category, and collect a coloured triangle from each, so that the ultimate winner is the one who answers a question from all 6 topics first.

The questions cover such a huge variety of trivia, with questions focusing on all different parts of the world and expertise. There are questions there that everyone will know, making Trivial Pursuit a great game for any member of the family. Even if you are not an expert in a certain category, eventually you will come to a question that even you know.

Trivial Pursuit has most recently taken on a more modern stance to the traditional board game style, with the latest editions incorporating the technology of DVD into the game. By landing on certain squares on the board, a DVD question can be activated, giving the game a far more modern twist, to appeal to even the most technologically-obsessed teens of today! There are now even editions to appeal to different types of trivia fans, such as Pop culture, the 80s, or the ever so complex genius edition. And the best part of all is that once you own one version of Trivial Pursuit, you can then use the same board and purchase expansion packs of new trivia cards to play with your existing board. This keeps the excitement fresh, and allows you never to tire of this classic game.

Overall, Trivial Pursuit is one of the greatest games ever made. It appeals to all age groups, backgrounds and expertise levels. It is fun, and allows you the chance to show off with all the random knowledge you keep stored for a rainy day. So pull out your Trivial Pursuit on the next rainy day and challenge your family and friends to the title of Trivia king or queen!
