Youghiogheny Blues
Heading down Dravosburg Hill
The fog lifts in the valley once made of steel
Been thirty years now and it's gotten worse
Oh this Youghiogheny River's been under a curse
Heading down Dravosburg Hill
All is quiet, all is still
No one comes to play no more
Who wants to play with the poor?
It's nothing but an open sore.
A bronze image stands on Lysle Boulevard
From back in the day when it wasn't so hard
If JFK were here today?
What would he say? What the hell would he say?
Would he turn his back and walk away?
Or stand up for a better way?
Oh sing me a love song and tell me a story
When the streets were alive and full of glory
Show me where the rivers meet
I got the Youghiogheny Blues
I got the Youghiogheny Blues
Keep knocking on doors, but nobody's home
Cept the plasma center and the loan shark store
The Army recruiter and adult probation
a satellite police station
Yeah, you know the reputation
(bridge)
They say, If you build it, then they will come
But nobody's been round these parts
Only me with my broken heart
The whistle of the train brings a tear to my eye
The steeples stand tall in the evening sky
That beautiful river just passing me by!
Oh sing me a love song and tell me a story
When the port was kicking, so full of glory
Teach me to dance at the Palisades
Take a ferry ride to the big parade!
I got the Youghiogheny Blues
I got the Youghioeny Blues
The food bank rocks and there's a place that sells chicken
across the street there's demolition
If JKF were here today, what would he say?
What the hell would he say?
Would he turn his back and walk away?
Or take a stand for a better way?
The school kids play right next to the Y
Thank the Lord for his goodness and praise on high!
Their laughter fills the air, what a beautiful sight!
They're the hearbeat and the soul
Oh - the joy of my cry!
If you build it they will come,
And here they will find beauty
You know it is our duty .
to take care of our own
Oh sing me a love song and tell me a story
When the streets were alive and full of glory
Build me a roadof cobblestone
I got the Youghiogheny Blues
I got the Youghiogheny Blues

Was the place that I called home
I left there

The dusty road where I used to call home is calm this time of day
this is where we used to go to get away and it still seems

From this angle out the window
The world seems so small
Just traffic lights and rooftops
And the gray skies of mid-fall
