First I have to tell you that while I loved the first Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, I pretty much hated Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. That said, Pirates of the Caribbean : At World's End is much better! Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightley, still shares a kiss with someone other than Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom, but other than that, all was good.
There was a ton of action for the guys, a bit of romance here and there for the ladies and a lot of laughter for the whole crowd. Captain Jack Sparrow is as kooky and animated as ever, with his usual charm in tow. Papa Sparrow is in this movie, of whom Jack is almost the exact replica (now we know where Jack gets his fashion sense). Jack's mother is also in the film, she's a lot smaller than I would have guessed her to be (that will be funny when you see the movie).
We also finally get to find out who it was that broke Davy Jones' heart so many years ago; the woman who hurt him so completely that he had his own heart cut out.
Our happy couple finally gets that knot tied in the most unconventional wedding ever witnessed, with Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, performing the ceremony. The generous Captain takes time out of his busy schedule of fighting the bad guys, (literally) to marry the blissful couple.
The ending proves to all who don't already know it, that Captain Jack Sparrow is not as hard and unfeeling as he always tries to make us all believe.
The only thing I was not so fond of was the amount of importance they put on Elizabeth in this third part of the Pirates Trilogy. First having her be the only bargaining chip to Sao Feng, played by Chow Yun-Fat, then to her being made Captain, then finally being made King. Yes, I said King. It just seemed like a large part of the movie was dedicated to Elizabeth and from a woman's point of view, I thought it was a little too much. I am all for women pirates but it seems like they just went a little overboard in Elizabeth's heroine role.
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and laughed more in those few hours than I do normally in a week. If I were to rate this film I would give it a 4.75 out of 5.
