Tribute to Grandpa
Always happy and joyful
Devoted to your faith
You always stood by your family
You adored Grandma Grace -
The world was changed forever the day you made your peace
Leaving behind a following
Of those who can still see your face -
This is for you grandpa
The man who wore his heart
You loved without limits, loved without complaints
You loved with your entire soul -
I remember the day you got sick, remember it very well
The shame I felt when I got scared
And couldn't look you in your face
What was I to do without you in my life?
The selfishness that I felt
cut straight through me life a knife -
Pain you felt, I could see it in your eyes
Still you tired to hide it behind all my cries
What a brave man you were.
Remember the smell of the fish grandpa? The applesauce on the plate?
Remember the fear I had?
it was written all over my face-
I was just a kid trying to care for a man who became my world
I wanted to run
I wanted to hide
Perhaps it would go away.
But the disease caught up to you
Day after day after day
As if you would just melt away-
I wasn't prepared for the day you left - wasn't prepared at all
So here I still sit talking to you
praying that you will hear
These are my words grandpa, my word choice I hope is clear:
You come to me in my dreams when I seem to lose my way
Just like today you stopped by
And said, "Head up, you're okay, you'll find your way"
I want to hear your voice again, the kindness shown in your eyes
You loved me so completely even after the childhood days went by
I remember your last words grandpa
I remember your last look
And sitting at a table in my own little world
I even witnessed the last breath you took
The feelings of terror and sadness struck me to the core
How would I live my life without knowing you anymore?
Young I was the day you left silly and naive,
but you believed in me and loved me
just as you always did
you loved me grandpa really you did
And taught me so much
Even though I was just a kid
You loved me yes you did-
So this is for you grandpa the lost love of my life
You are thought of and missed every single day
Your grandchildren you would have adored
And you Grandpa, thought of just the same
P.S. Thank you for making a visit
to that special guy of my own.
Smile down on me once in awhile
When I begin to lose my way
Push me in the right direction
Help me hear the words you say
Show me grandpa what I should do
Speak to me please every day
I need your presence always around
I need you here today-
Put your angel wings around me
And protect me from the world
Think of me as you once did
Your special little girl -
I thank you for the love filled deep within my heart
My life has been so special even though you had to part.
