No! When you take perks from people with an agenda, you will owe them in the long run. Is there a fine line between the government lobbyist programs and what is done in organized crime? Seems like it. Case in point. If Big Oil gets you elected with campaign finance, what chance does alternative energy have in legislation at payback voting time. This goes beyond pork barrel spending. By taking lobbyists out of the equation, fat cats in office may not make a career there.
How to stop the madness:
1. Lobbyist and perk money is made illegal.
2. Those found getting paid (in secret) by said lobbyists will immediately be removed from office and forfeit any and all salaries owed.
3. Term limits.
4. All legislators must rely on Social Security (or their own savings) for retirement.
Lobbyists will still be around. But to be seen with one will be a formula for political disaster.
Now..If you are a representative..represent the people who voted for you, not financiers to your political career agenda.
