That garbage disposal is an odoriferous trap that can stink up a kitchen if not properly cleaned. If you don't want the smell of rotting garbage overwhelming your nose, take a cue from these tips for keeping it clean and fresh.

Every time you send something down the garbage disposal, do you run it with water to chase after that crud? You need to do this consistently. And secondly, do you rinse soap and water down with it? Just hand washing some stuff over the disposal will help battle the odor.

Time for the heavy duty stuff. I prefer bleach. I also recommend Clorox Clean Up when wiping down the sink and countertops. You can let bleach sit in the disposal without running it for a period of time - maybe a cup or less with a small amount of water.

You don't have to send everything down the disposal, either. The more you put down there, the more obnoxious odor you'll likely deal with. When you've got stuff to get rid of and your garbage can is near full, fill it up and toss it right away. Better than sending that stuff down your sink to sit and rot.
