Book reviews: The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown

A curator in the Louvre was murdered. His body lying in a peculiar position, almost like symbolic cipher. Robert Langdon, a professor in symbology was summoned to the site to assist in the investigations. The sight that greeted him was horrifying enough for the untrained eye. But for the symbologist, it was a shocking revelation. Later, Robert, together with the dead curator's beautiful granddaughter Sophia; were unwittingly caught up in the subsequent investigations which led them to uncover a terrible secret the secret of the Holy Grail.

It is a fast-paced novel with puzzles, car chases, mysteries, medieval knights, romance and betrayal. Somehow suspected for the murder, the professor and his female companion went from place to place, led on by the perplexing clues that the dead curator left behind to uncover the deadly secret that the old man lost his life in protecting. Curious secrets lie behind the magnificent art pieces in the Louvre. Indeed, Dan Brown has artfully created the ultimate Hollywood thriller plot.

The Priori's main mission is to preserve the sovereignty of Mary Magdalene. However, in fear of the Church's persecution during the Middle Ages, they resorted to subtle ways in bringing their messages across. And how! Dan astounds us by uncovering the truth behind Mona Lisa, the Last Supper, the pentagram, the 5 linked rings of the Olympic Games and I am sure the future reader would appreciate me not writing here what Dan says is the secret behind military ranking insignias.

In a nutshell, the Priori seeks to maintain the subject of feminity; or rather female superiority. We are asked to reflect on the almost frightening ways that is carried out. Disney cartoons for example, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella all seemed to be centred on the female. Moreover, is there something wrong with the Lion King movie? Mere coincidences? Apparently not; according
