from allin when a clove or bulb of garlic is cut or crushed. Garlic also contains the vitamins A, B and C and the minerals selenium, iodine, potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc. Berries
All berries are good for health, however different types have different benefits:
Blueberries Along with pomegranates, these contain an exceptionally high level of antioxidants, one of the highest in any food. They are packed with vitamin C, potassium and fibre and promote heart, brain and eye health.
Cranberries Also contain a very high antioxidant level, and promote urinary tract health as well as helping to prevent ulcers and gum disease.
Strawberries Are full of vitamin C and potassium. They help to protect the heart and brain and have anti-aging properties.
Raspberries Also contain vitamin C and potassium and promote heart health.
Blackberries Contain vitamin C and anthocyanins and protect the heart. A gargle made from blackberries can sooth a sore throat.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes contain the vitamins A and C and beta carotene. The antioxidant lycopene is predominant in tomatoes and has a number of health benefits. It can ward off wrinkles and slow down the aging process, as well as protect the skin from sun damage and help prevent certain cancers. A study at Harvard University found that males who ate at least ten servings of tomatoes or tomato-based foods per week were less likely to develop prostate cancer than those who never ate them. Tomato-based foods include tomato juice, soup, puree and sauces. Unlike other vegetables which can lose nutrients when processed, processing of tomatoes increases the concentration of lycopene. This means that tomato-based products contain the highest amounts of bioavailable lycopene.
