When I got married, my husband like many others I am sure was completely stumped about the gift n the groomsmen. I'm not sure if that is an indication of the separate personalities and interests they all possessed or his complete lack of interest in shopping. Either way, being a female, and one that loves to shop, I assisted in locating a suitable gift(s).
We thought of everything: Gift certificates blah nothing special there. How about a grooming kit? Who were we kidding? Most all of the groomsmen never groomed, or could care less about grooming, and would surely never use it. How about cuff links? We still laugh about that thought. The same scenario with tie clips, clocks, mini golf desk set, etc. It was so much easier to buy some lovely earrings and a nice Victoria's Secret bath set for the bridesmaids. Why on earth was it so difficult to think of something for the men? In retrospect, and now that I am a married woman for the last 16 years, I can honestly say it is because most men really hate the crap they get when they are not the ones who told you what they wanted. All the men gift ideas offered at most stores are really somewhat lame. Even when you go to sites on the web and click on the gifts for him, there is not one that I can find which my husband would enjoy or want. I suppose that is what makes this category a good one to write on.
We did finally make a decision and one which actually went over really well. We bought all of them a Swiss Army Knife. Cool gadgets with a mini magnifying glass, little knife, screwdriver, scissors, toothpick, all the stuff a guy could ever want in one handy, dandy little unit. Hey, if they get bored at the company picnic their wife made them go to, they can always pull out the magnifying glass and burn up some ants when nobody's looking. It went over great. We also gave them each a two pack cedar cigar holder with utensils and two nice cigars to celebrate the event if they chose to. We figured that even if they didn't use it or like it, they could always re-gift it. Truth is, they all lit up at the reception on the balcony of course - and one of them even managed to use the scissors from his Swiss army knife to cut off the tip.
