The government should not give any money to election campaigns. By allowing the government to help with campaign costs we are allowing the government to choose who gets elected.

Everyone knows that most voters don't know enough about the candidates or their stances on the issues. People don't read the voter's pamphlet. They watch TV. They see the campaign commercials. They see the smear campaigns. They vote for whoever looks best on TV. The whole thing is a popularity contest.

If the government is allowed to give money to campaigners then they are allowed to choose who will win the election. They give our* money to who they want in office and say no to whoever they don't want in office.

Candidates should pay their own way to getting elected or the taxpayers should decide who gets help and how much they get.

*I say our money because the government gets its money from us.
