I am personally a Naval Personnel, the first few sailings that I went basically I felt like a Singapore Merlion. If you wonder what is that, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Merlion.jpg
It really felt horrible. I was basically hugging to the toilet bowl like my long lost friend.
How to avoid Sea Sickness.
I managed to overcome it in the end using the following methods:
1) Have a good night sleep the day before. If you dun sleep enough, you will start having a heavy head.
2) Keep your mouth fresh. Bring some mint sweets or anything to keep your mouth fresh. A odoured mouth will induce lots of vomitting.
3) If you need to vomit, vomit and do not control. Once you vomited, you will feel better and remember to keep your mouth fresh.
4) Keep low, try to keep low. If you need to go below deck, but ensure that the ventilation and air are fresh. Lower part of the ship are usually more stable.
5) If you can't stand the air in the decks, go up for fresh air.
6) Keep warm. It is normally cold and keeping warm will help you fight sea sick.
7) Sea sick pills and anti sea sick patches. Sea sick pills are to be eaten before the cruise and patches will make your throat feel dry. So do drink more water but don't get bloated.
8) Avoid caffeine and curries. I found that these 2 are quite killers to some.
9) If you really vomit, do eat to regain strength.
10) If all else fails, hide in the cabin and sleep.
Bon Voyage!
