There is so much to do in Hollywood. Taking a trip there without a game plan of what to do would be a big mistake. This is definitely a trip you want to make the most of.
1. First make a list of things that you find most exciting and that would interest you. Do you want to see the taping of a sit-com or talk show? Have you always wanted to tour a movie set? Maybe you want to see the stars' homes and see what famous people you can see coming out their front doors. Or, maybe a club where you can run in to the hottest movie stars is your thing. Make the list. It will help to make sure you don't miss anything.
2. Once you have determined what you want to do, the best thing to do is hop on the Internet start researching. Here are some good sites for getting information.

3. Once you have determined where you want to do, what you want to do, and how much money you can spend. It's time to find a hotel and book your flight, rent your car, and so forth. The best resource I have found for great deals on hotels, airfares and rental cars is www.expedia.com. But, you might also want to try a travel agent who can give you some good ideas on package deals. It's important to find a hotel that put you within close proximity to the majority of the sites and places you want to visit.
Hollywood is a great place to visit. When we went, we visited Universal Studios and toured the sets of Friends and ER. We also took a tour of stars' homes and saw the homes of Nicolas Cage and many other big name celebrities. Be careful of tours like this. You want to make sure they are reputable and actually taking you to stars' real homes. Check for reviews on attractions and even contact the better business bureau if you can just to make sure.
Some other places worth seeing:
Mann's Chinese Theater
Sunset Strip
Hollywood Sign
Walk of Fame
Rodeo Drive
Have a great time!
