What tips can I give for throwing a twister party? Okay, let's be honest here. How many people have ever thrown a Twister party, unless of course you are under the age of 12? If, however, I was to throw a Twister party, my tips would be as follows:
1. I would capitalize on twisters, as in the tornadoes, on my invitations and with the party decorations but utilizing colors that are green, blue, red, yellow, etc. as in the Twister game. Using MS Publisher and recoloring the photos works nicely. You can even save a Publisher photo you have recolored as a jpeg, which while it might not be the best quality could be great for decorations on the wall and not just invitations.
2. I would also make sure that everything I served had a "twist." Perhaps martinis with a twist of lemon or lime? Twister cheese snacks? Little sandwiches with olives dubbed Oliver Twists? You could totally use your imagination here.
3. I would have music that played into the theme as well, such as "Peppermint Twist," "The Twist," "Let's Twist Again," and for the younger crowds you could play some Korn and their song "Twist" from their "Twist" album. Along with the music, you could have cut outs of Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt with Twister game spinners taped to their hands placed in your living room along with colored twister photos, and photos of the game board next to them, enlarged and hung on the wall
4. Best of all, however, is you could have Twister games with a twist. For instance, how about you spin and the color you land on not only indicates where you put your hand or foot, but if anyone in the room is wearing that same color, they have to eat a drink a twist of some kind? Of course, if you have differing age groups, you could do the 19 and under games where none of the adults pay attention and take a welcome libation break, or the 50 and over game where the participants have to tell a Twister story from their youth if they miss a spot. If they cannot remember one, they are forced to kiss the closest participant (whether male or female we're talking pecks here by the way). If they do have one and the crowd approves, they get another chance. Lastly, the 20-50 range, where if they miss a spot, they drink a twist or, along with under-aged individuals, they have to do the Twist alone in front of everyone while singing the classic song by Chubby Checker or reciting lines from the movie "Twister," which would be rated by their peers and if not good enough they would have to revert to the dance and song.
5. A final point, and a nice touch, would be to provide a parting gift. Perhaps a photo of the person at their most embarrassing moment in the party (if you have a Polaroid), inserted into the same type of invitation you sent, or for the big winners, a copy of the Twister Movie or a game of Twister to bring home with them.
Happy Twisting!
