Hair loss. It seems like a problem your grandfather or dad should have to deal with. Maybe even your brother. But not you - after all, this is a problem for old men, right? After you realize that you have too much hair in your hairbrush every day, taking a calm and rational approach to the issue can help your sanity.
First off, evaluate the situation. This could be a case of hair breakage, not hair loss. Are you a hard on your hair' type of gal? Have you recently chemically treated your hair or developed an affinity for elastic hair bands? Does your hair look or feel brittle? If this sounds like you, this may very well be a case of hair breakage.
If you feel that breakage may be the cause of those hair clogs in the shower, there are a few steps you can take. Give yourself a trim - split ends can catch on combs and brushes. Use a deep conditioner. Forgo elastic bands in favor of terry cloth ponytail holders or scrunchies (admittedly, they don't hold your hair very well, but they don't do the damage either). Avoid tight hairstyles and hot styling tools (use cool on your blowdryer if you can't give it up). When you color your hair, do just the roots - use a glaze for an all-over pick-me-up.

If you don't have a pregnancy or chemotherapy reason for hair loss, get to your doctor. It could just be shedding, or it could be a sign of something serious. Your hair is a good indicator of your overall health, and a red flag here means something's up.
You may have a hormone imbalance that's causing the hair loss. If you're experiencing other symptoms of an imbalance, this is probably the cause. Other common symptoms include masculine hair growth (particularly on the face, neck, and chest), irregular menstrual cycles, low sex drive, depression, weight gain, headaches, and trouble concentrating (this list is far from complete).
Hypothyroidism and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are common causes of hormone imbalances in women. You can be given hormone replacements (commonly, birth control pills). If the underlying cause can be determined, that can be treated as well. Hormone imbalances can have
