Forever Lost, Forever Remembered: September 11, 2001
The bells ring out their mournful cadence on the eleventh day of the eleventh month.Time stood stagnant as the baby sat crying, waiting for his mother to come home to feed him and care for him. She was all he had; she was all he ever knew. A mother and father sat waiting with a fabulous dinner to celebrate their only son's birthday. All of them are still waiting today, their minds still baffled by the loss. In a split-second, life was changed for many. The planes pierced the hearts of the many people that now roam the world in grief. Their dreams were crumbled to dust as they realized they would never see their loved ones again. The events of September 11, 2001 changed forever the psyche of the people across the globe and how they perceived their role in life. Those actions that took place on that day can never be justified; the loss is incomparable. Its effects still reverberate throughout the world, unleashing unwarranted wars, heartbreak, and chaos.
Amidst the crumbled ruins lie the people that might have made a monolithic contribution to life on our planet. They might have found cures for the many illnesses that plague humanity, found solutions for the world's numerous problems, and most importantly, they would have been alive today to be with their loved ones to enjoy life's precious moments together.
Yet these very souls that now roam the ruins have indeed already contributed something that we should all be very grateful for. They have shown us the meaning of life. We saw in the reflections of the twisted metal that life is precarious and should be treated with respect. We should embrace every moment in life, realizing how fortunate we are to be here today.
Today, the ruins of the towers are being cleared away and a new building is being constructed. Unfortunately, this same approach can never be used regarding the loss of the many relatives, friends, and companions that have vanished forever. Those departed souls were the foundation in the lives of many people who are now forced to continue their life with nothing but memories. Families are struggling to reconstruct their lives because what they have lost can never, and will never, be replaced.
If the events that took place on September 11, 2001 could be erased from the script of life, a child would still have his mother, and a mother and father would still have their only son. Thousands of people died on that dreadful day; it is a wound that can never be cured in the history of our country; it is a gash that will never heal in our hearts. Its effects rippled across the planet, like a devastating tsunami. People of many different cultures realized that life is our greatest gift, and once this gift is lost it can never be replaced. No single entity can ever replace that which has been unrighteously taken away from us for all eternity. The bell tolls through the twisted carnage and the bell tolls for us all.
