There are so many things that you shouldn't have to ask your teen but eventually need to. You shouldn't have to ask them what the smell is coming from under their bed....
Most likely it will turn out to be a rotting pizza that has long ago been discarded and forgotten about, along with a cup containing a layer of mold. Now you certainly wouldn't have anything of the sort anywhere else in the house but teens can be a law unto themselves.
Getting up in the morning is something that the average adult does regularly, but not so the average teen. They may appear as a lump under the covers, when you enter their room at 10am, then groan as if in agony when you ask them to get up now.
You shouldn't have to ask your teen where they have been when they tiptoe through the door at two am. You shouldn't have to but it's probably best to. More than likely they will have been to a party, conveniently forgotten the time and hoped to get away with this without you noticing. They were wrong!
Teens will invariably commit misdemeanors even when trying not to. They are led by their peers, their hormones and by current trends and fashions.
Your teen may try to sneak out of the house for a date wearing a peculiar outfit, to your eyes anyway, that does not cover their body suitably. This is normal but still unacceptable and you will get fed up of asking why they keep doing that.
You really shouldn't have to ask your teen to speak English so that you can understand them instead of them babbling on in text speak or another similar language to their friends. Equally so you shouldn't have to ask them to be polite, walk their dog, do their homework, stop kissing at the front gate in full view of the neighbors and eat the occasional vegetable.
You shouldn't have to ask them these things but you probably will.
