I won't argue the biblical issue of whether homosexual couples should be allowed civil unions but not marriage, because I think the bible speaks to the individual about how they should live their own life as opposed to a guide book for the reader to use to tell everyone else how to live.

I believe that since marriage has always been and was founded to be a legal and moral contract between a man and a woman it should remain just that and not be redefined. I confess to being opposed to unnecessary change. I resent that I can no longer use the word 'gay' as a synonym for carefree and happy-go-lucky or the word 'queer' to mean almost but not quite the same as peculiar, because these words have be co-oped and now have for most people entirely different meaning. The words 'marriage', 'wife' and 'husband' already have established meanings and I just don't see the point of mudding the waters.

I have no problem with same sex couples exchanging vows and professing their love in a ceremony in front of friends and family or in signing a legal contract promising sexual fidelity and giving the legal rights of inheritance and the right to make medical decisions for each other when necessary; just don't call it marriage because it isn't.

Let's face it, right or wrong a same sex relationship is not the norm and deserves its on set of terms. If you are really not ashamed of being homosexual then don't hide behind heterosexual jargon, show you are proud and forge ahead with terminology that lets everyone know up front what your lifestyle is.
