If you take all the emotions out of the equation, what is marriage? It is a legal contract between two parties. You can take any definition of the word marriage and apply it anyway you want. But it boils down to a union between two people or parties.

Now, I'll give you that "traditional" marriage involves one man and one woman. That is what I did. I have a beautiful wife and three wonderful children. That is my choice. Why should it be any other way? Well, because every person is not me. Is Homosexual love any less meaningful than heterosexual love? Just because of anatomy.

My favorite argument against gay marriage is "the Bible says........". Well, thats fine. That covers marriage in a church. But marriage isn't a religious contract. So, in theory we are allowing religion to dictate law. I thought there was a separation between church and state. Isn't that why the colonists left England and settled here? So that the church wouldn't rule the state. I said that to someone and their response was "I'm sure that our fore fathers didn't intend the church to be separate so that it could have gay marriage". Valid point. One in which I answer - "Kind of like the right to bear arms wasn't meant to protect the right of anyone to own an AK-47?" Our fore fathers made laws that stood up for the times they were in. Laws have been changed and updated (well, except for the gun one).

I find it amazing that when people pick a side on an argument that they will take and bend and twist things to favor them. Religion is one of the guiltiest parties on this. Anything that happens is God's will. Anything that doesn't have a reasonable explanation (doesn't make sense) is explained as God testing our faith. Try that argument anywhere else.

Now, let me pose a question. Other than going against what the bible says, what risk does gay marriage present to society? I know, it will corrupt the youth. How? It will create a society of people that don't follow the bible. And? Remember, the bible is not a legal document. It is supposed to have no bearing on legal decisions. I've always kind of found it funny that we use a bible to swear that we'll tell the truth in a court of law. apparently people that don't have religion are unable to tell the truth. Because we know all religious people tell the truth 100% of the time.

It is time for people to stop the hate. What is the real reason people are opposed to gay marriage? Because they don't like it. Well, I don't like the show south park. I think it does more damage to the youth of this country than most things. But, I am not asking for it to be legally outlawed. We have three inalienable rights. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe gay marriage for some would fall under "pursuit of happiness".
