Poetry: Fairy tales

The Dragonfly Queen

From water to air to light
The Dragonfly Queen took flight

Her wings danced in the air
in a tango'd flair

As the Frog on his lily pad
watched the nomad

He yelled, Come down from there
This is so unfair

We're both born of the water
Yet, I'm still the yachter

She flew past his head

and teased her wingspread

No worries great toad
No need to explode

I shall wait till you doze
and land on your nose

With a gift from a flower
to show you my ardor

Why wait till I sleep
croaked the Frog with a leap

To the next lily pad
begging his winged comrade

Cause I'm not ready to dance
this odd romance

You won't like my wings
and I forgot how to sing

The Frog sang with a croak
from the watery moat

Your wings hum like a song
stop being headstrong

I'll close my eyes with a snap
so you'll think I nap

and as for your wings
you silly young thing

have you never heard
of frogs that are birds

we wait for the wind
and then come unpinned

and fall from the sky
as if we could fly

So the Queen flew her dance
in an amorous trance

towards a green pasture
to find a jeweled flower

She returned in a flash
and tried not to crash

to land on the nose
of the Frog who dozed

Maybe we're not that different, you and I
you in the water and me in the sky
