How Far Is Good-Bye?
Day and night in antiseptic room
Watching,Waiting,Crying
Eyelids flutter and see-unseen
Morphine hazed horrors...I hope just memories
Through a saline cascade
Step back to yesterday
Anything to stop tomorrow
These struggles fraught with redundancy
An invisible void metastasized
So incremental it hides
Below,above. Inside and out
It feeds from the refusal of inevitability
Holding a frailty that seems surreal
When not long ago...large as life
Holding the hand that once dwarfed your own
Careful to not squeeze too tight
Knowing you shouldn't second guess
And failing miserably with regret
Wishing you could have been a better son
How far is good-bye?
