Since the beginning of time man has been fascinated with pictures, from cave paintings to 3-D models of the Earth. Images have shaped human history. The way we view and create these images however has entered a whole new realm. Along with everything else art has to adapt to changing times and the way this is being done is digital imaging. There are many ways to create a digital image you could take a picture with a film camera and scan it or use the most common method of using a digital camera but there is still another alternative which is imaging programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and Aperture.
Most households have pictures that family members have taken that are irreplaceable or already have a camera that takes film. This is the reason that scanners are popular among so many people. With a scanner one can take picture that have already been developed and scan them onto a computer allowing for editing of the picture to reduce blemishes. Many times older photos can be slightly blurred but if one were to scan that photo there would be a chance of using some type of imaging program to sharpen the picture or reduce red eye. Also, if you have ever spilled water or another drink onto a photo you know the impact it can have. Along with just getting it wet it also causes the colors in the photo to run but, if the photo had been put into digital form it would have been possible to just print out another copy of the picture. This is a great alternative for people with small children who are prone to spill things. Also, there are many websites on the internet that allow members to upload pictures once they are put into digital form which makes it easier to share pictures with friends and family members but also it is a great way to protect priceless pictures in case of a house fire or computer problem at you home. These sites also can be accessed from almost any computer with internet access. This method is also preferred by many professional photographers since it allows them to use their existing equipment. Photographers spend thousands of dollars on their equipment which can cause them not to want to change quickly because of the investment they have already put into it. Another reason some photographers are skeptical of digital cameras is when the digital camera was first released many of the cameras had very poor image quality but now digital cameras are just as good as film cameras however some photographers don't agree. Some photographers
