Tips for freshening your garbage disposal

When I am deep cleaning around the house I always try to get every area around the house including the garbage disposal. There are plenty of ways that you can freshen your garbage disposal with products that you probably already have at home. Here are a few that I have tried and still use to this day ~

Lemons ~ cut a lemon into wedged and throw them down your garbage disposal with it on. It will freshen up that garbage disposal immediately! I only use a bout a half of a lemon each time.

Bleach ~ From time to time I pour about a half a cup of pure bleach down the garbage disposal to help eliminate any odors and kill any bacteria and germs that are growing in there.

Baking soda and vinegar ~ Pour about a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of hot vinegar down your garbage disposal. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes or so and then run the disposal and rinse with water. It may take a couple of applications to completely eliminate any odors.

Ice cubes ~ Ice cube will sharpen the blades of your garbage disposal which will make it run better and grind through the food leaving less chunks stuck in the garbage disposal. You can do this with about half a lemon or an orange or by itself. Doing so with the lemon or orange will not only sharpen the blades but leave a fresh scent behind.

These are some of the tricks that I have learned along the way that I have tried myself and I use on a regular basis. I hope that you find them helpful as well!
