The first waltz has to be the grooms' biggest fear on his wedding day. Fear no more. Though you may be out there for all to see, and you may even feel as though you have two left feet, take a deep breath, look into your new wife's eyes and know that the rest will follow. Take her out onto the dance floor. Pull her to you and put your right hand on her waist. With your left hand, take her left hand, helping her to hold up her wedding train if necessary.
Waltzes are a three count. It's not as hard as it looks. With your right foot step forward. Your wife will automatically step back with her left. Bring your left foot up even with your right and then move it to the left by about 12 to 16 inches. On the third beat, your right leg will slide over to join your left. Your wife will be the mirror of these movements. Step, to the side and together. Now go back with your left foot. Bring your right back to join it and slide it over to close the box.
If you are smart, you will practice this at home before your wedding day. Walk the box without music with your wife first. Starting on your right foot... step, side together, back, side together. If you can accomplish that box, and get comfortable with it together, you can fake it on the dance floor quite nicely. Practice for a couple of weeks before the big day would be the best suggestion, and then just have fun. If you step on her toes, tell her you love her and you'll spend your honeymoon kissing them better. She'll forgive you before the dance is over, and love you even more for trying.
