It is a bit like asking if land travel is possible in China.
Let us suppose for a moment that time travel is possible, and that at some point humans discover how to travel though time.
In this case it would be reasonable to assume that they would do so, visiting both their future and their past.If it possible at one point in time, surely by definition it then becomes possible at all points in time.
If time travelers have done,or will do, this, then why have we never met any?
Actually the answer to that is simple. Imagine you are the time traveler. You have just got your hands on this fantastic machine that Will allow you to travel through time.So you do so, and watch or experience life in another time.Would you tell people where ( or rather when) you were from? I don't think so , for two reasons. First you would be too busy observing, and secondly, you would assume that people would react in a negative way to this by either trying to steal or machine. or more likely by just not believing you.
Also think about when you would go to. Personally I would want to look at the future to see what was in store for myself and my offspring. In terms of the past, I would want to visit those big Historical events. At times like these people would be too pre-occupied to notice a time traveler.
However I would also want to look at daily life in the past, and I think that however good my knowledge of history, I would in some way stand out and be noticed. Surely visiting the past and interacting with it,would change things?
If we could change the past then this would have a knock-on efect and change how things are now. So our reality would be constantly changing, and we would all be really confused. We would have no sense of contiuity in our life,we would never really know our surrondings,or other people,or even ourselves.None of us would ever really be sure about anything.
Of course you could argue that this is exactly how things are!
