There are two things that will enable a man or a woman to be the best at what they do, and those two things are practice and repetition. Here are a few simple everyday steps that will help you turn your sub par jump shot into a silky smooth jump shot. First, when you enter the gym make sure that you do a five to seven minute warm up to get your arms and legs loose, then proceed into a drill that we in the basketball world call "dot shots". Dot shots allow the player to work on his or her form and they are very simple. The player must stand five feet away from the rim, square their feet with the basket and shoot the basketball ball ten times from each side of the rim. While doing this the player must make sure that his or her elbow is at a ninety degree angle at all times. Step two is a drill that will help the player keep his or her feet square with the basket, it is called the catch and pivot drill. The two most important parts of acquiring a great jump shot consist of keeping your elbow and feet square with the basket. In the catch and pivot drill, the player will throw the ball out in front of him or herself and then will run, catch and pivot towards the basket. There is no shooting involved in this drill but the player should go into his or her shooting motion , making sure that their elbow and feet are consistently square with the basket. Step three is probably the easiest step of all. When you are at home lying around or watching television, pick up your basketball and practice shooting the ball with your elbow at a ninety degree angle. Yes, this might sound silly but you will see the results. Also you should do different ball drills to increase you grip on the ball. A good grip on the ball is always a plus in achieving a great jump shot. Last but not least, when you finally get the hang of keeping your elbow and feet square with the basket you should shoot fifty or more jumpers from each of the five spots on the basketball court everyday. Make sure that you keep a journal to document you progress. If you practice and repeat all of these steps that I have given you then your jump shot should be silky smooth in no time. And remember, no matter how good you get, you can always be better. Practice and repetition do not make perfect but it will make you spectacular.
