The biggest problem with homeschooling does not involve the quality of schooling, though that may also be a problem, but the social aspect that is neglected. School is where children get the chance to interact with their peers in their formative years to develop social skills that will be utilized throughout life. Children kept at home will also have less of a chance of making as many friends which could lead to social awkwardness later in life. Common knowledge is that kids can be mean to each other and a child that is home schooled faces the possibility of ridicule when interacting with other children.

The other potential problem is that there is no guarantee on the quality of schooling. While this is unfortunately true in some formal settings, it is more prevalent in homes. Learning materials such as textbooks, handouts and the ever-popular blackboard may not be accessible. Parents may also overestimate their expertise in fields and teach their children the wrong material or leave out important topics.

What happens when the child finishes all of their homeschooling and now needs to attend college to get a degree? He or she has never attended a real class or been in an environment of this nature so they will not know how to respond which adds to stress already present. Overall, it just does not pay to be home schooled.
