Guide to some of the greatest soccer managers the world has ever seen

extremely high value upon honour, respectability and tradition. It is fondly rumoured that he wore three different suits a day, one each for the morning, the afternoon and the evening. Players were chastised for failing to wear their bowler hats, or even for walking with their hands in their pockets. There is also a touching story of how Rangers travelled in 1937 to play Stoke City in a benefit match for the Holditch Colliery Disaster. As a means of showing their gratitude, Stoke presented Rangers with the "Loving Cup," which had been created to celebrate and commemorate the silver jubilee of George V. To this very day, the tradition hence established of the Rangers and relevant opposition directors using this cup to toast the health and well-being of the reigning British Monarch following the first home game of every New Year is maintained.

What this great man may have achieved in a later era of European competition we can sadly never know. All in all, I think the record - only briefly summarised here - of this incredible and successful manager in winning what was available to him speaks for itself and I have no doubt that even Sir Alex Ferguson himself - an ex Rangers man - would have no hesitation in admitting that the late, great Bill Struth was, "Simply the Best!"
