Having been with Wachovia for years, I haven't found much in the way of anything negative to say about using their checking. They provide online banking free of charge, and getting an account established online was relatively simple.
As with all businesses there are those who work for a company without regard to its good reputation and often times will cause a customer to have ill feeling towards the company whereas in most cases they will change who they will do business with.
One such instance occurred for me as I found myself in a very uncomfortable position as a result of wrong information given to me by a bank employee. However, after offering all the problems I had as a result to another representative, I was extremely impressed by how my problem was handled.
It seems that the representative who gave the wrong information was no longer employed as a result of misleading many of its customers so as to obtain commissions on promotional deals.
It wasn't the banks fault, but had I not understood how these problems occur, I would have changed banks feeling they were incompetent. But when given a chance to correct the mistakes, it's how well they handle them that should be the reason to leave or stay.
It's unfortunate that big and small companies alike cannot guarantee that those they hire to represent the company will do so in a professional and ethical manner. But they should at least be given a chance to show accountability for their poor choices by doing follow ups with all correspondence concerning follow ups. Wachovia has done that and more, and if I were to change anything, it would be the hours of operation that would put them in a highly competitive arena such as the smaller banks who want you're business.
