Yoga positions for weight loss

You have always been told that exercise and proper diet is the only way to succeed at weight loss. You have tried cardio, jogging, and just plain old walking to find that neither of these exercise programs is what you want to use. You love the idea of Yoga! Relaxation, stretching, toning, etc is exactly what you have in mind for your exercise program but will it help you lose weight? There is no set yoga position that will lose you X amount of pounds, as a matter of fact yoga is not the best exercise for weight loss. Yoga offers so much more than a toned body for those who wish to benefit to its full extent.

Yoga is based upon three main structures. These three structures include exercise, breathing, and meditation. Yoga is generally used to better improve over all health and not weight loss alone. Yoga is believed to improve circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the glandular system of the body. These things combined add up to better health for the individual!

Yoga teaches care for not only the body but also the mind. When you begin yoga you also begin meditation. Meditation allows you to put both your body and mind at ease. Meditation is accomplished by learning to control breathing. Meditation does not require a clear mind. It requires you to be aware of your body to allow for stress relief.

There are six branches of yoga. Each branch concentrates on improving an area of the body or mind. To fully accomplish all that yoga has to offer you must know which branch you need to use. The six branches are:
*Yoga of Postures which deals with physical poses, breathing, and meditation.
*Yoga of Devotion which deals with the heart and devotion to your God or "Great One".
*Yoga of Self-Control which deals with discipline and self respect.
*Yoga of the Mind which deals with the mind focusing on intelligence.
*Yoga of Service believes your past actions influence your present life.
*Yoga of Rituals deals with using rituals to experience what is sacred.

Yoga can be used to stay fit and can be a great exercise. Yoga can even be used to tone muscles which may aid in weight loss. Yoga however has so much more than these few things to offer. Yoga is a great tool that can be used to not only keep your body fit but also reach great depths of the mind. Is yoga for you? Yes, yoga is for anyone who seeks to better not only their health and body but also their minds.
