Is the Bible trustworthy?

Is The Bible Trustworthy?

In determining if the Bible is trustworthy one must first find out the definition of the adjective. Trustworthy means that something is worthy of confidence or is reliable. Words that are synonymous with trustworthy include dependable, honest, upright, faithful and honorable. These words give a broader scope of the word trustworthy.

Over the centuries there have been many thoughts about the authenticity of the Bible. Many have held their faith in the bible until death, but others, even those that claim to believe, have denied the principles and testimonies that it proclaims. Here is one of the greatest errors of humans in determining the authenticity of the Bible.

To prove whether the Bible is trustworthy of not depends on whether individuals study, interpret and follow its teachings. Without applying the principles to one's life a person will never know if this book is reliable. There must be practical experience in a person's life to determine if the Bible is worthy of one's confidence and trust. Person's who have never tried to understand or who depend on others to teach the words and interpretation of the scriptures will deem the Bible as a history book, the speculation of ancient men. Men and women who are reproved and corrected by its teachings, and who are unwilling to change their lives also will want to discredit the Bible's teachings.

It is extreme difficult to convince humans about the reliability of the Bible without first encouraging them to read its words. Most people would like to know, why should I read and believe this book? The most important reason is that the Bible speaks about the Creator of the heavens, the earth, the seas, plants, animals and mankind. Secondly, the Bible speaks directly to a person's life. There are instructions that point to every aspect of life, regardless how unimportant a person may think that aspect of life is. The things that influence our health, peace, and our relationship with God and man, the Bible gives valuable instructions.

Just as a manufacturer that makes a car gives a manual for the proper maintenance and repair, God gives instructions so that man can live to the fullest in the best of health and happiness. He has provided lasting instructions to guide the life of every man and woman. Verses like "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger" and "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 15:1; 22:6), are just two of the many scriptures that show practical wisdom.

If people give confidence to manuals written by manufacturers, why should they not give heed to a manual written for mankind from the creator of heaven, earth and of mankind? Only by applying its teachings can a person know whether the Bible is trustworthy or not. People must not confuse the action of most followers of the Bible to decide if it is reliable, but must through study and prayer, experience the Bible for themselves.
