Planning a bridal shower is a lot like planning the wedding itself. Start with the foundation of the party:
THE SIZE! How big do you want this to be? Like 30 people or closer to 10? Do you want to invite the traditional guests? (Grandmother, mother, BFF, bridesmaids, and other women) Is your fiance going to be a part of it? (We call this a couples shower) In my particular case we had two showers, my boss threw us a couples shower at my place of employment, and my MOH (Maid of Honor) threw me one at her house!
Once you decide on the size and if it's a "No boys allowed!" situation or not, it's time to decide on an affordable yet trendy theme!
THE THEME: No matter if it's something eccentric like a costume party or as laid back and calm as a traditional shower, the theme makes up the second part of the foundation. It helps you decide what games to play, if any, as well as what kind of food and beverages to serve! The easiest way to begin the decision process for this step is to examine what time of year it is occurring. Also take into account your wedding theme! They don't have to go hand in hand, but it helps you get your bearings. Obviously holiday weddings are always the easiest to pick themes for, it's done for you! Spring is a good time for a classic tea party theme, summer is always good for luaus and cook outs! Fall is good for costume parties (especially October) and Winter is good for indoor activities! My wedding was in July, and my shower in June. I chose the Luau theme simply because we did not get the Jamaican honeymoon we had hoped for. So there you have it, pick the theme and the rest shall come easily!
Things to consider while planning: Food, music, games, decorations, and the optional party favor! Since there are so many options for themes, I will use my Luau shower as an example for this particular article.
Food: We did skewers with pineapple, shrimp, chicken, ham and papaya on a charcoal grill! (YUMMY!)Pair that up with Pineapple upside down cake, macadamia pie, and fruit juices mixed with ginger ale and frozen berries instead of ice! It was a blast. The shower games part got my feathers ruffled. I always thought they were corny, and they were supposed to be icebreakers, but how can they break the ice when all they do is embarrass your guests? So I picked out two things I thought were quite unique and served as more than ice breakers! My first "game" was sending out a decorated index card in each invitations so that my guests could write down their
