King George? The imperial presidency of George W. Bush

by Billy Mitchell

Created on: May 29, 2007   Last Updated: June 04, 2007

Alexander the Great, all those years ago, set out to conquer the world....to subject it to his rule, his laws, his ideology. In time, his empire failed, as did he in a spiral of paranoia, mistrust, and madness. Not only did he lose his acquisitions, but he also lost his homeland, too. See any resemblance to our current President Bush. Ever since I can remember, we have heard about his "New World Order", from him and "Daddy" Bush. Bush has always had his own agenda, though many people choose to ignore it. He may not be Alexander the Great, trying to conquer the world, but he is spreading HIS ideology. Unfortunately for us, it is Democracy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Democracy. It's a great philosophy and, to a great extent, works (at least better than most other forms of government). There is just one glaring problem with it. The people have to WANT democracy....work for it, bleed for it, and, yes, even die to get it in most cases. You cannot force democracy on people, they won't understand it, or they are still so intimidated by the old regime to use it wisely. Democracy, like any dream made reality, is not spawned fully realized. It must be born, nurtured, endured through growing pains, guided, and protected. What Bush did in Afghanistan and Iraq, in my opinion, is unconscionable, reckless, and arrogant in the extreme. We did NOT elect him to govern the world. We did NOT elect him to conquer the world. Remember, FOR the people, BY the people....WE are the people, WE elected him to work for US!

I have heard all kinds of conspiracy theories about the events of 9/11 and about the airliners that either did or did not crash into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. Some of the video footage and testimonies I have seen are very convincing. Whether they are right or not, I don't know. All I know is that Bush, after the events of that day, declared war on a nationless enemy....which, by the way, is ideologically IMPOSSIBLE to win. We set up a parliamentary democracy in Afghanistan, after we took out their Taliban controlled government...how long is that going to last? Then Bush turned his eyes back to Iraq...That is where he lost me. "We are looking for the weapons of mass destruction," Bush says....well it's been about 6 years...where the heck are they? He hasn't found ANY! Maybe the whole Iraq/Hussein thing was payback for Hussein trying to assassinate Bush's Daddy after the first Gulf War. What, you didn't know about that? Oh, yeah, there was a
