Things have got incredibly confusing in the land of Metal in recent years. There are an incredible amount of sub-genres, and (even though I like to consider myself knowledgeable on most things Metal) even I get confused at times.
I can just about cope with the main sub-genres of Metal - Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash, Grindcore, Glam Metal, etc - it's the sub-sub-genres that get me. For instance, Folk Metal is widely recognised as a genre - whereas something like Viking Metal is not. It's apparently just a label rather than a genre. Confused yet? I am!
The main point here is not to concern ourselves with which label a particular band or song happens to fall under. At the end of the day, all that matters is the music and whether or not you enjoy it. If you enjoy it, then listen to it!
