The main reason for the civil war was the problem of slavery.
The progression of the democratic ideas in the industial "north", who claimed the end of slavery, was opposed to the conservative ideas in the "south".
The economy of the south in the middle of the 19th century, relied at first on agriculture, slaves worked for free in terrible conditions in fields.
So hen, the proposal of slavery abolition was claimed in North, (1860), the south states proclaimed independence.
