Our government started the war in Iraq because we were told that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. When we got there we found out this wasn't the case. But we still remained in Iraq.
The mission changed to removing Saddam Hussein from power. This was done but we still remained in Iraq
The mission was changed again to restoring order and helping to rebuild Iraq. But after we started sending aid and constructions crews to Iraq our people started disappearing and our service men are being shot at and bombed.
So the mission shifted from a humanitarian one to helping restore the Iraqi government. And this was done in at then end of 2005 and civil war broke out in 2006 but we still continue to send troops to fight in Iraq
We went to Iraq and started a war when no one was threatening us and there were no weapons of mass destruction. We are not keeping the peace and we are not able to rebuild Iraq. I think the only reason we are still there is because the president backed himself into a corner and doesn't know how to back off from the war without looking any worse then he already does.
I think that we should get out of the war and let the Iraqis fight it out among themselves. At some point one side will become the victors and when that day arrives we will be able to make a better assessment of the situation.
As it stands right now we are only adding more fuel to the fire of this war and not helping the Iraqi people or ourselves. How many more Americans and Iraqis have to die before we pull our troops out.
The best way to end this war might just be to end our involvement in it. The longer we continue fighting the longer this will go on. When do we say "enough is enough?
